Overview

We are starting to study the personal endings - a widely used element of the Hebrew language.

The very first thing you heard in this course was the word שלום with a personal ending: מה שלומך? - “How are you?”. You saw the personal endings in another lesson when you learned that שלי (my) is the combination of של and the 1st person ending י.

The personal endings can be applied to different language elements. For example, "my brother" is אח שלי (ah sheli) or אחי (ahi = ah + i). Or, הבית שלו (ha-bayit shelo – his house) can be shortened to ביתו (beyto = beyt + o).

The lesson text is repeated for your convenience.
